Melissa Schindel-Kaplan, D.D.S.
Dr. Schindel grew up in Long Island, New York, with her parents and younger sister. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995 with a bachelors degree in the Biological Basis of Behavior and a minor in Psychology. She went on to New York University College of Dentistry where she earned her DDS and then stayed for two more years to complete the post-graduate program in Orthodontics. While studying at NYU, Dr. Schindel was an orthodontic teaching fellow in the Pediatric Department, as well as Coordinator of the Cleft Palate Team.
Soon after moving to East Manatee County with her husband in 2003, Dr. Schindel decided that this community would be the perfect place to open the private practice she had been planning since graduating from the orthodontic program at NYU. So in November of 2003, Schindel Orthodontics became a reality and Dr. Schindel began treating patients in her brand new East County office.
Dr. Schindel is a member of the America Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Florida Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the West Coast District Dental Association, and the Manatee Dental Society. She is also a member of the Sarasota Cleft Lip and Palate team, chairperson of the Manatee Dental Society’s Children’s Dental Health Month committee, and teacher for the Junior Achievement program in local schools.
When not working, Dr. Schindel and her husband enjoy boating, fishing, traveling, golfing, and gardening.
